In our museum we introduce you to one or more crafts every Sunday. Craftsmanship that should not be lost. One of the craftsmen is Hans Cornelissen. Since his retirement, he has started to focus on fine wood carvings. You can regularly see him at work, including 15 May.
First he draws a pattern on a piece of lime wood. Then the cutting can begin. His tool consists of a sharp blade and a small scalpel. With this he sticks the pattern following, pieces from the wood. A regular relief is created. From the boards thus processed, he makes beautiful objects such as boxes, trays, or a clock, finished with clear lacquer.
He has displayed an assortment of his work for you. For a small amount, these works of art are for sale, a reimbursement for the material costs. It’s a hobby, not a livelihood. We are pleased that he regularly wants to show his craftsmanship to the visitors in Open Air Museum de Locht. Only a few still master this old craft. To be seen with us!
